Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School 50th Anniversary Signage

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School 50th Anniversary Signage

When STS called us to talk about a new sign for their gorgeous 80-acre school property we immediately thought about doing a giant set of mountains.  Looking at the open space afforded to us we knew it had to be pretty big.  The sign ended up being 24ft wide x 9ft tall; installed on 5ft extended screwpiles it actually reaches to a height of 14ft.   The sign was fabricated to look like giant i-beams coming together to form three attached mountains.  The text across the front and two birds above are made from hand-shinned aluminum.  These will catch light as vehicles pass and give a little extra shine.

Symbolism:
-The three mountains represent the three schools elementary, middle-school and high-school.
-The two aluminum birds on top represent the two original schools (Strathcona School for Boys and Tweedsmuir, An Academic School for Girls) coming together to form STS.
-The two birds also represent the initial two gifts that got the school started; a 160-acre parcel of land donated by the Cross Family and a quarter million-dollar legacy gift left by the Calgary businessman William Atkinson.

We also create beautiful 2-layer STS crests to spruce up the chainlink gate across the driveway into the school.
